Be Careful Who You Believe!

Knowing this first, that there shall come in the last days scoffers, walking after their own lusts, and saying, ‘Where is the promise of His coming’” (II Peter 3:3-4a)?

Be careful … there are many of these people very close to you today.  There are plenty of “scoffers” that populate your church, your school, and in your world today.  These are people who mock the truths of the Word of God.  Be very careful, because they will appear to be “good” people with your best interests in mind.  However, the absolute truth is that false teaching has infiltrated even the best churches.  Don’t be easily turned from the truth you know the Word of God teaches.

As we look at your life from our “older” perspective, one of the biggest fears we have is that you will leave the foundation of the Word of God when dealing with tough issues in life.  Please remember these words … Trust the Word of God, not the “mockers” that will always be close at hand.  You can trust the Word of God because it contains eternal truths that will never change; never need revisions; and never be proven wrong!

These mockers have one thing in common … they will always be teaching to fulfill their own lusts.  They will have a theme, or a favorite issue that is secondary that they will give a place of prominence in everything they talk about.  In II Peter, he addresses the issue of the return of Christ.

The times we are living in right now are exactly what he is describing in this chapter.  There are “good” people who have denied the Rapture of believers.  There are others who made predictions that we have seen have proven wrong about “the end of the world.”  Peter warns each of us to be careful who we listen to.  It was true in his time, but I believe intensifies in it’s importance as the “last days” come upon us.

I wish I could walk everywhere with you to protect you from these people.  The reality is that I cannot possibly do that, nor could I defend you completely.  I am battling the same challenge myself.  The one thing I can do is challenge you to make the Word of God the guide for your life each and every day.  I know that if you will take the Word of God into your heart everyday, that His Word will never fail you.  Knowing the Scripture is the only hope we have of holding fast in these challenging times.  I thank God for giving us this precious book.  Live in it everyday, all day long!

Don’t put a question mark where God has put a period.” – Adrian Rogers
