“My son, attend to My words; incline thine ear unto My sayings. Let them not depart from thine eyes; keep them in the midst of thine heart. For they are life unto those that find them, and health to all their flesh. Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life” (Proverbs 4:20-23).
Clara H. Scott wrote a beautiful song that has been sung in many churches over and over again. There is a reason it has been sung again and again. It speaks to a desire that we all ought to have for following the Word of God. There is something about reading the Word of God with not only our eyes being opened, but our ears, and our hearts as well. After we have heard the words of this Book we then need to tell someone else about what it has taught us, and what we have learned through it. Consider the words he wrote in thinking about these verses today:
Verse 1: Open my eyes, that I may see glimpses of truth Thou hast for me; place in my hands the wonderful key that shall unclasp and set me free. Silently now I wait for Thee, ready my God, Thy will to see; open my eyes illumine me, Spirit divine!
Verse 2: Open my ears, that I may hear voices of truth Thou sendest clear; and while the wave-notes fall on my ear, everything false will disappear. Silently now I wait for Thee, ready my God, Thy will to see; open my ears, illumine me. Spirit Divine!
Verse 3: Open my mouth, and let me bear gladly the warm truth everywhere; open my heart, and let me prepare love with Thy children thus to share. Silently now I wait for Thee, ready my God, Thy will to see; open my heart, illumine me. Spirit divine!
Let’s start this day by asking God to open our eyes. I want eyes that are open to the truths of Scripture, but I also want eyes that are open to the hurting people that will cross my path today. I want open eyes to the opportunities for service to the King of all kings today. I want to have eyes that see the open doors of opportunity that God has planned for me today. One of the things I pray each morning is that I will accomplish all that God desired for me for this day when He gave me the breath to enjoy it. That means that even though I might not like the places, people and things God leads me into today, I want to have eyes that are open to see the potential that God saw in those things for me. I want to have my eyes wide open today to all that God is going to do! I don’t want to miss a thing!
