Trust and Obey

It sounds simple … trust and obey.  There are few things that go against our human nature like trusting someone else, and then obeying someone else.  We, for some strange reason (read Isaiah 14:12-14 to see where it all started) like to be in control of the situations we find ourselves in.  God has other plans for success in our everyday lives.  “Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.  In all thy ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct thy path” (Proverbs 3:5-6).

John H. Sammis wrote a simple song that has been sung by children and adults both.  This song simply and directly approaches the issue of trust.

Verse 1: When we walk with the Lord in the light of His Word what a glory He sheds on our way!  While we do His good will, He abides with us still, and with all who will trust and obey.

Verse 2: Not a shadow can rise, not a cloud in the skies, but His smile quickly drives it away; not a doubt or a fear, not a sigh nor a tear, can abide while we trust and obey.

Verse 3: Not a burden we bear, not a sorrow we share, but our toil He doth richly repay; not a grief nor a loss, not a frown or a cross, but is blest if we trust and obey.

Verse 4: But we never can prove the delights of His love until all on the altar we lay; for the favor He shows, and the joy He bestows, are for them who will trust and obey.

Verse 5: Then in fellowship sweet we will sit at His feet, or we’ll walk by His side in the way; what He says we will do, where He sends we will go – never fear, only trust and obey.

CHORUS: Trust and obey, for there’s no other way to be happy in Jesus, but to trust and obey.

When we trust and obey the Lord’s plan for our lives, we are following the plan of God for us.  When we doubt and rebel we are following the Devil’s plan for our lives.  Which do you think will bring more success to us?  Which do you think will end in ultimate happiness?  Of course, following our loving Heavenly Father will bring that peace and ultimate happiness.  So, why is it that we struggle so much in this area?  Yield yourself to the plan of God for you today.  Do it multiple times throughout the day, because you will be tempted to take charge at some point.  Trust and obey, there really is no other way to be happy!  God’s plan is best … walk in it today!
