We have seen some incredible floods in the last few years. Etched in my mind is the picture of the man/woman who was driving in their car and the flood rose to the point where they were now not in a street, but in the middle of what looks like a river. I see that person climbing out of their car and standing up on the roof of their car waiting for help to come. Tragically, in some of those cases, help did not arrive, and we have seen pictures of those very people being swept away in the ever-increasing current of the flood waters. Those people needed something that was stable in an unstable situation. In our world today there is an outcry for something that is stable for us to depend upon. We know what that is … there is only one Savior for this world … it comes from our God.
“My soul, wait thou only upon God; for my expectation is from Him. He only is my rock and my salvation: He is my defense; I shall not be moved. In God is my salvation and my glory: The rock of my strength, and my refuge, is in God. Trust in Him at all times; ye people, pour out your heart before Him: God is a refuge for us. Selah” (Psalm 62:5-8). What an incredible oasis in the desert of life! We have hope! We have a Rock! We have Salvation! We have a Defense! We have Someone that allows us to say that we will not be moved! We have a Refuge! We have a place to put our trust! We have God! What an incredible set of verses for you and me to hang onto today!
Those who do not know our God, are standing on the roof of their hopes and dreams hoping that someone will come by to rescue them. All that they thought would bring them ultimate peace and happiness is flying past them with the ever-rising flood of turmoil we see around us today. They are looking for that Rock … Salvation … Defense … and Refuge. Why is it then that we who know God as our personal Savior and God are so anxious about telling them where the hope is? Why is it that in a day when others are crying out for help, we stand next to them and act like there is no hope? Why do we join their feelings of despair and hopelessness when we have a Refuge?
Don’t climb up on the roof of some sinking hope with someone today. Draw them from that hopeless situation to your God Who offers you eternal hope and peace and joy and salvation! You have the answer to the questions the world is asking today. Stand for Jesus Christ today and throw out the life-line to someone who is sinking in the worry and cares of this world! The world does not need us to look and act like them. The world needs us to be unique in our trust in God. Stand for God today!
