2016-09 – Sept

Dear Friends and Supporters of SWM,

Harvest time is coming very soon here in the Northeast. This is one of my favorite seasons of the year. We will see fields being harvested almost daily for the next few months. We at SWM are also busy with the harvest time. We have had a very productive spring and summer, and we are excited to see what God is going to do in the months ahead! Jesus told His disciples, “The harvest truly is great, but the labourers are few: pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that He would send forth (more) labourers into His harvest” (Luke 10:2).  This has been an on-going prayer for SWM that the Lord would help all deaf ministries reach the Deaf world for Christ!

These past few months were very busy with Fantastic Saturdays, SWMI mission team to DeafNation in Las Vegas (98 reported salvations). Our “newer” missionaries, Nicole Condra (Romania), Jeremy and Jenna Ring (Canada), Bruce and Amanda Stuart (Gabon, Africa), and Drew and Melinda Wright (England) are on the deputation trail. Drew and Melinda recently returned from a very productive survey trip to England with David Bennett. We are praying for these “laborers” who are making preparation for getting to the field. Will you join us in praying for them? They are worthy of your support.

Outreach Ministry Report – We recently posted two videos to YouTube. (1) The testimony of how the ministry began by Ted Camp (https://youtu.be/0xfdnNO7GLM). (2) Testimony of first time interpreting by Carlene Camp  (https://youtu.be/4-sbp6sNCt0). The beauty of these being posted on YouTube is that anyone in the world can now see the story of how Silent Word Ministries began. We will soon launch BOOTCAMP for Deaf Ministry, a  program designed to help those who are called and have surrendered to Deaf Ministry locally or globally. We are excited as this new program will help fulfill the Great Commission of “Teach Them.” Veteran missionaries will teach and train from their areas of expertise to new teachers, missionaries, and nationals worldwide.

{PL-07-03Two annual ASLI (American Sign Language Institutes) were held in Georgia and Pennsylvania (July and August). These unique meetings combine both hearing and deaf people to learn how to build good deaf ministries. Also Valley Forge Baptist Temple (pastor Scott Wendal), in Collegeville, Pennyslvania honored Ted and Carlene Camp for 50 years of faithful service with SWM. They gave two gifts, an unique moving mission globe and a gift for SWM newspaper. Perhaps you would like to encourage your church to also send SWM a special anniversary gift. It will be used in our Evangelism Fund.

2016 Missions Retreat – We just closed our Mission Retreat in Tennessee. We had 45 in attendance.  Wow! We now have 15 families serving with SWM as a new family, Jay and Cathy Savelle, joined our Ministry of Helps program. He will serve in field evangelism at fairs, flea markets, and team trips, and short term foreign trips. The retreat theme was “To God be the Glory, Great things He hath done” (I Sam. 12:24). Sessions were by SWM leaders and BIMI (ARMS) veteran missionaries Mickey and Christine Schrimshire.

FYI: SWM has built a new downstairs office for Jon Barr. The upstairs office is expanded into one large Studio with more filming area and a special sound room and equipment. Please continue to pray with us as we continue to go and grow. Pray with us for more laborers to go to the field of the Deaf!  We are praying for another Allen Snare (deaf) and hearing leaders to help in the Midwest and West. We need help to continue to reach farther and more effectively in the days ahead. Thank you for your financial and prayer support.  We are indebted to you for your faithfulness to our ministry! We thank the Lord for you!
Yours for Jesus’ sake,
Jim Bracelin

Praise Reports

Jon and Diane Barr, Jim and Terry Bracelin, Ted and Carlene Camp, and Allen Snare thank the Lord for the great ASLI/Deaf Bible Conference in Pennsylvania. The attendance was 124 people, 20 of whom were deaf, from 10 different states. The spirit was great, and many people appreciated the teaching, training, and encouragement. Fifty-eight people made decisions to faithfully work in deaf ministry.

Nicole Condra praises the Lord that her monthly support is now 53%, and all her expenses for the DeafNation trip were provided by churches and individuals.

Reed and Donna Condra report a great mission trip to the Dominican Republic. They went with deaf teens from Harvest Deaf Ministries and ministered with missionaries Eric and Juana Quinlan. Their son, Joel, was the leader of the team. A major part of the trip was a deaf camp where Reed preached and Donna helped with the children and ladies. There were 175 in attendance and 8 salvation professions were reported! The Condras would also like to announce the engagement of their son, Joel, to Sarah McDowell. An October wedding is planned.

Allen Snare reports an additional 12 salvation professions (for a total of 14) during the weeks of Deaf camp at the Bill Rice Ranch.

Paul and Rachel Strosnider taught beginning Sign Language classes at the Georgia ASL Institute. They also took a group from their church for the Deaf Bible Conference, and 11 of them made service decisions! Paul led one boy to the Lord while at the Bill Rice Ranch, another boy who had been visiting their church, and a friend of one of the church members. One of their church members, Sue, witnessed to many at the Deaf Nation World Expo, and another member, Sharon, led her Deaf friend to the Lord!

Bruce and Amanda Stuart are thankful for several good meetings and contacts in Massachusetts last month. They also helped in a VBS, and several children made salvation professions!

Drew and Melinda Wright report that God has been “proving Himself” to them. They recently shared their ministry with five churches in Ohio and Michigan, and at least two of those churches either took them on for support or intend to in the near future!

Prayer Requests

Jon and Diane Barr and Jim and Terry Bracelin ask your prayers for fall Fantastic Saturdays that begin soon. September meetings include Missouri, Wisconsin, New York, and Connecticut. These meetings are wonderful opportunities to encourage many deaf ministries with reminders of the need of reaching deaf people with the Gospel of Jesus Christ and training them to serve Him. Please pray that the Gospel preached will touch hearts and people will be saved.

Nicole Condra is praising the Lord for 98 professions of faith made during the Deaf Nation World Expo. She asks that you pray for the souls of others who received DVDs and other gospel literature at the event.

Reed and Donna Condra ask for prayer for their family in ministry. Pray for the teens who were on the Dominican mission trip and for the deaf youth who “heard” the Gospel in the camp there.

Paul and Rachel Strosnider ask prayer for new workers. Seven people from the church have recently moved out of their area and one person passed on to Heaven. Please pray for their church members to grow spiritually and for more deaf men to come to church. Pray also for their annual church missions conference at the end of September.

Bruce and Amanda Stuart request prayer for safety in travels and for their upcoming meetings in Texas. They would love for their support level to raise to 25% very soon. They also ask your prayer that they would be able to schedule meetings in November and December of this year and on into 2017.

Drew and Melinda Wright need your prayers for safety and for their vehicle as they have a busy missions conference season with meetings in Virginia, W. Virginia, Missouri, N. Carolina, S. Carolina, and Ohio!

SWM encourages you to pray for more laborers, both Deaf and hearing. SWM needs more missionaries, especially Deaf, regional directors, and helpers in technical areas.

SWM Missionaries and those in the Ministry of Helps needing more support: Jon Barr, Tabitha Beam, David Bennett, Reed Condra, Nicole Condra, Larry Galyen, Bud Ring, Paul Strosnider, Bruce Stuart, Bill Towner, and Drew Wright.

Pray for more “as needed” gifts for SWM home office.
