2016-06 – June

Dear Friends and Supporters of SWM,

50 yrsIt is hard to believe we are almost half way through 2016! As you know, this year Silent Word Ministries is celebrating fifty years serving the Deaf! It seems that the years just go by so quickly as we serve the Lord together. We like to use this letter to thank you for what you are doing to help us continue this ministry until the Lord returns! You may think that you are not that important to the ministry, but all of us at SWM realize that it takes many hands to effectively get the work done. As Joshua neared the end of his life, he made this statement to the Israelites: “And ye have seen all that the LORD your God hath done unto all these nations because of you; for the LORD your God is he that hath fought for you” (Joshua 23:3).

A dear Pastor friend introduced me to that phrase in Joshua 23:3 and I have been preaching a series of messages on the phrase, “because of you.” I would like to take a moment to reflect on some of the very special people that have played a major role in the history of SWM. We are thankful for a simple poster-board that Ted Camp used to invite the first deaf to come to his church. Because of that one sign and his visitation, a Deaf ministry was established. We are all thankful for Alvin Spurgin standing to Sign; “More about Jesus would I know …” Because of that simple signed song God touched the heart of Pastor Ted Camp to “Tell the Deaf more about Jesus.” We are thankful for a little Deaf boy praying under his covers at the Bill Rice Ranch thanking God for saving him, while Ted stood over his bed listening. Because of that simple and sincere prayer, Ted was prompted to resign the pastorate and become a full-time missionary to the Deaf. We all are very thankful for a final promise Ted made to Alvin Spurgin when he was near death that he would not stop, quit or give up. Because of one simple promise we are celebrating 50 years of ministry to the Deaf.

Using this same theme and thought, I would like to thank you. “Because of you,” we are able to continue to blaze new paths in Deaf ministry. “Because of you,” we are able to print our free SWM Newspaper and mail it to thousands of Deaf and hundreds of Deaf ministries. “Because of you,” our free Evangelism Fund ministry is able to provide free tracts, a Deaf Bible Institute, Bible teaching brochures, and a free foreign missions literature program. “ Because of you” God continues the SWM that began in 1966. “Because of you,” our missionaries were able to buy equipment, go to more churches, set up booths at Deaf Nation Expos, and take the Gospel to the deaf worldwide. We are thankful for the 163 reported salvations this year through our many varied ministries that are active 24/7/365. “ Because of people like you, many Deaf will hear in Heaven!”

You may not think that you or your gifts are much, but we want you to know that we understand that God can use all kinds of things and all kinds of people to get His work accomplished. As we have seen throughout the Bible, God can use anything that is placed in His hand to accomplish amazing things. We at SWM can testify that your gifts in the past and your present gifts have been used by God to help us to do far more than any of us ever thought possible. I believe we all could look back on our lives and thank God for ordinary people along the path of our life that influenced us and were used to change our lives. We also want to thank each of you for your support of SWM these many years. It is “because of people like you” that we are still here and still moving forward. Please take a moment with us to thank God for His incredible faithfulness to us personally, and as a ministry. He has done “ …exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us” (Ephesians 3:20)! We thank God for you.

Yours for Jesus’ sake,
Jim Bracelin

Praise Reports

Jim and Terry Bracelin report a great first Fantastic Saturday in Baltimore, Maryland. There was a great spirit among the people. Jim was blessed to preach for a prison and saw many people hungry for the Word of God. Twelve ladies made salvation decisions in those two services.

Reed and Donna Condra voiced for Ronnie Rice as he preached a Deaf Revival. One Deaf and two Hearing were saved in the meetings. The Condra’s are thankful for their improved health. Thank you for your prayers.

Bud and Jenna Ring taught their first week-long sign language class. Each night, 40-50 hearing people came to learn. They concluded the week with a Fantastic Saturday, and four deaf attended and heard the Gospel! One deaf man said that after attending church for over 80 years, that Sunday was the very first time he had had an interpreter to help him understand the Word of God!

Allen Snare preached a Deaf revival in Warren, Ohio. Six people made salvation professions in the meeting. That Sunday evening, there was no voice interpreter, so the “hearing” people experienced the Deaf world! He preached for the Deaf Christian Senior Fellowship in Kansas, and he also helped Jim and Terry Bracelin with a Fantastic Saturday in Florida, where one person made a salvation decision.

Paul and Rachel Strosnider give praise for Isabelle, a 10 year old in their church, who has begun witnessing to her classmates. One of them recently came to church!

Bruce and Amanda Stuart have been traveling in Massachusetts, Rhode Island, and Connecticut presenting the need for laborers in Gabon and among the Deaf world. At a recent Missions Conference, one person made a salvation profession!

Drew and Melinda Wright were blessed to be a part of the Missions Conference in their sending church. While soul-winning with another missionary, one young couple made a salvation profession!

Prayer Requests

Jon and Diane Barr would appreciate your prayers as they represent Silent Word Ministries at the Deaf Baptist Fellowship of America in Ohio. Jon also will be going to Belize, Central America, to preach a Deaf Revival and teach additional sign language for Deaf ministry workers.

Jim and Terry Bracelin will conduct a Fantastic Saturday in Hanson, Massachusetts, and attend Spiritual Leadership meetings in California. Please pray for these meetings and other opportunities Jim has to preach in prisons.

Reed and Donna Condra request prayers as they prepare for helping with a mission trip to Dominican Republic. Their son, Joel, will be leading a team of young people to aid missionaries Eric and Juana Quinlan (Harvest Deaf Ministries) reach Deaf people on this mission field.

Bud and Jenna Ring ask prayer for Vaden, a deaf man who has kidney disease and is facing dialysis and possible kidney transplant. The Rings also have a major need of a truck to haul their trailer.

Paul and Rachel Strosnider need your prayers as they prepare for witnessing at a Deaf festival, teach in Vacation Bible School, and celebrate their 11th year church anniversary. All these events take place in June.

Bruce and Amanda Stuart ask you to pray that those who attend the DeafNation Expo will take the Gospel tracts and DVDs back home and share with their friends and family, thus getting the Gospel into other countries around the world. Please pray that through the Stuarts’ deputation meetings they will represent the Lord and His work well, and that more churches would have a burden to partner with they in reaching the unsaved in Gabon.

Drew and Melinda Wright have been on a survey trip of England. Please pray for them as the Lord uses the things they have seen, heard, and learned there to direct them to the exact place of ministry. Pray also as they continue deputation, that they may raise their support to go back to this country of great spiritual need.

SWM encourages you to pray for the mission team led by David Bennett that will be ministering at DeafNation World Expo in Las Vegas in July 2016. Over 20,000 Deaf people from 100+ countries of the world are expected to attend the Expo. SWM missionaries involved in this soul- winning outreach are David and Vicki Bennett, Tabitha Beam, Nicole Condra, Larry and Diana Galyen, and Bruce and Amanda Stuart. Several of these missionaries need more funds for the trip. You can send gifts to SWM, designated “Missionary Name – Mission Trip.”

For IRS and Tax-deductible Purposes All support or gifts should be made to Silent Word Ministries or SWM. Then designate “For………..”
