Dear Friends and Supporters,
I want to give a special “thank you” for your support to our missionaries, and also to you who support our “home office” fund. Our “home office” operations minimum budget this year is $6,100 each month. Your support and gifts help meet this need. Some support the missionaries and add an extra $5 or $10 for “office support.” This has been a great help. FYI: The missionaries serving with SWM receive 100% of the monies given to them. Naturally, our missionaries also have the liberty to give as you give to support the home office, but a gift is not required. We make a statement to our missionaries, “We are here to give, not take.” FYI: SWM has an outside CPA and a bookkeeper to oversee all records, missionary support, and IRS reports. Naturally, there are times we need new computers, equipment, maintenance, and special projects. Our policy is to notify you and pray the need will be met. For these many years the needs have always been met. We still remain debt free. We try to simply observe the needs and adjust to the level of our income. We are also blessed to have non-salaried missionaries to serve in our leadership. This year we are excited about our new outreach programs* provided free on the Internet. We feel this will become one our largest areas of spiritual growth. Your giving is a good investment that will yield eternal fruit. In 2015 we had 628 reported salvation decisions from the many areas of our ministry. To God be the glory, great things He hath done!
An Unusual Request: Recently pastor Scott Vanderhart of Adelphi Calvary Baptist Church, in Runnels, Iowa, asked me, “What would you do with $100 dollars?” I responded that I would use the money to buy 40 USB thumb drives to download 170 different SWM items of Bible Manuals, booklets, flipcharts, lessons, graphics, and a Sign Language video for soul-winning and make them available to 150 missionaries and national pastors on our monthly M&M–Mission Ministry program. Thumb drives are sent “free” with SWM copyright permission. We also encourage missionaries to share the thumb drives with other missionaries and nationals. The church sent me $100 and thumb drives are now being sent. It worked! We are now using technology in our new outreach ministries. Let me also challenge you to ask missionaries, “What would you do with $100 or even $500?”
Fifty Years of Ministry – You may have noticed the 50th anniversary logo. Wow! Carlene, my wife, is getting older. Some have already sent Anniversary “Congratulations” and some have included special gifts. Just to let you know 100% of these special anniversary gifts will be placed into our “Evangelism Fund” that provides for five “free” ministries: (1) Tracts, (2) Bible Courses, (3) Pamphlets, (4) The Silent Word newspaper, (5) M&M Mission Ministry. Carlene and I are humbled and honored that the Lord chose us to represent Him to the Deaf world these many years. These have been fifty years filled with good memories and blessings. The Lord seems to give us the right people at the right time. Also, it is amazing that deaf people have always been with us. The Lord has provided many volunteers, friends, and supporters who help make this ministry possible. Some support our missionaries, some support the Sender’s Club to help send the “free” Silent Word Christian newspaper, some give special one-time gifts for special needs, some are hearing and do not know signs but support us to minister to the deaf, some are deaf people and share in deaf ministries. But we all share with one thing in common, to serve and glorify our Lord Jesus Christ. It is a joy to serve the Lord with you. I state again, “To God be the glory, great things He hath done.”
Please pray with us that the Holy Spirit will overshadow our ministry as He overshadowed the Tabernacle. Without Him our work would be in vain. Our mission statement is, “But we will give ourselves…to the ministry of the Word – to Deaf people worldwide – Acts 6:4. Again, thank you for caring and sharing in our ministry.
Jon and Diane Barr are thankful for the great spirit in the first three Fantastic Saturdays this year – one in Florida and two in Georgia. One salvation decision and
27 other decisions were reported. One deaf couple came to two of those meetings with both spiritual needs and the need of encouragement as there is no Deaf ministry in their area. Please pray for this couple and others like them across America. The Barrs are also thankful for 2 new supporters!
Tabitha Beam is thankful for increased opportunities to be involved with the Deaf community – speaking with Deaf people at mall gatherings, a Valentine fellowship, and a bowling activity. She also helped with the Fantastic Saturday in Trenton and led the children’s program for the one in the Atlanta area.
David and Vicki Bennett thank the Lord that He is already blessing the “Creation to Christ” (C2C) video teaching David is doing for Deaf with minimal language. They have received reports of it being used by a missionary in Cambodia to witness to Deaf people there who have no language!
Jim and Terry Bracelin praise the Lord that He so richly blessed when Jim spoke for a Sportsman’s Dinner. Over 20 people responded for salvation! They also report a wonderful Fantastic Saturday in Rhode Island. They had 73 people in attendance, and there were 5 reported salvation decisions!
Reed and Donna Condra report that it was good to be in a missions conference in South Carolina. That church began supporting them and Nicole Condra!
Paul and Rachel Strosnider praise the Lord for adding another member to their Deaf church, bringing the current membership to 30. They are also excited to help one member, Sue, prepare to be the first Deaf person from their church to go on a mission trip! She will be going to the DeafNation World Expo in Las Vegas this July. Many members are now getting a burden for lost friends and family members.
Bruce and Amanda Stuart thank the Lord for the privilege of speaking in six churches in February about the need of reaching the Deaf in Gabon with the Gospel of Christ. In one meeting 2 people made salvation decisions! They also report that their schedule is almost completely full through early fall and they have one new supporter!
Jon and Diane Barr need your prayers for safety and God’s blessing in the remaining Fantastic Saturdays (in Arizona and California) and other meetings this spring.
Tabitha Beam requests your prayers for needed funds for her DeafNation World Expo mission trip in July. The amount needed (with air fare) is $1,450. Donations for this need can be sent to SWM, Designated “Beam – Mission Trip.”
David and Vicki Bennett ask your continued prayers for the “Creation to Christ” (C2C) project. There are about 20 lessons on the Internet now, with many more to come. Please pray also for wisdom for the many preparations for the mission team for DeafNation World Expo in Las Vegas, Nevada, in July of this year.
Jim and Terry Bracelin have Fantastic Saturdays scheduled in Nova Scotia, Maryland (first time), and Florida. Please pray for God’s blessings in these meetings.
Reed and Donna Condra would appreciate your prayers since both of them have been experiencing back problems.
Bud and Jenna Ring ask you to pray for their first week- long meeting in May. They will be teaching ASL each night during the week and then ending the week with a Fantastic Saturday. There are many Deaf in that area of Nova Scotia. Please pray for Christians to be burdened for the Deaf and for souls to be saved.
Paul and Rachel Strosnider request prayer for several Deaf people in the church experiencing major spiritual struggles.
Bruce and Amanda Stuart ask for your prayers as they have several meetings, including four mission conferences in the next two months. Pray for many meetings to be booked for the remainder of 2016 and 2017. Also, please pray for them and their extended family in the recent loss of Amanda’s grandfather. They are comforted to know that he is now in Heaven with Christ.
Please pray for comfort for Bill and Eleanor Towner as Eleanor’s sister, June, unexpectedly passed away.
SWM encourages you to pray for more laborers, both Deaf and hearing. SWM needs more missionaries, especially Deaf, regional directors, and someone to help in technical areas. Also, please pray the Lord will send us another Deaf man, as Allen Snare to preach and serve in this ministry. Pray for more Deaf men to serve in Deaf ministries.
SWM Missionaries needing more support: Jon Barr, Tabitha Beam, David Bennett, Reed Condra, Nicole Condra, Larry Galyen, Bud Ring, Paul Strosnider, Bruce Stuart, Bill Towner, Drew Wright, and SWM “Home office.”
