Sweet Sleep

Two words that could describe this generation is “unrest” and “emptiness.” You will find unrest and emptiness in sports as the season fades. You will find unrest and emptinessamong politicians. You will find unrest and emptiness in fads or fashions. You will find unrest and emptiness in sensual pleasures. You will find unrest and emptiness in sin. As Solomon you will learn that the best things in life are not things. Solomon said, “And whatsoever mine eyes desired I kept not from them, I withheld not my heart from any joy; for my heart rejoiced in all my labour… Then I looked on all the works… and, behold, all was vanity (empty) and vexation of spirit” (Eccl. 2:10-11). As Solomon you will find unrestand emptiness in things. Money will buy a bed, but not rest, books but not brains, food but not an appetite, cosmetics but not beauty. You can buy a house but not a home, medicine but not health, luxuries but not culture, fun but not happiness. This rest is not found in prescriptions, but comes only from the Great Physician. The Lord said, “Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light” (Matt. 11:28-30). This rest cannot be found in your labors, but only from the Lord. Notice He said, “I will give you rest.” The condition is that you “come” He “gives.” It is a gift that cannot be earned or bought. Also this promise is unlimited to “all” who will “come.” All includes you. You can swap your unrest and emptiness for His fulfillment for rest. His rest is better than a Sleep Number bed. God can do for you what you cannot do for yourself. God has placed an unrest and emptiness that only He can satisfy. “For he satisfieth the longing soul, and filleth the hungry soul with goodness” (Psalms 107:9). Do you have an unrest and emptiness in your soul at this time?Let the Lord fill your empty soul and give you rest. “When thou liest down, thou shalt not be afraid; yea, thou shalt lie down, and thy sleep shall be sweet. (Prov. 3:24). Yawn…hmmm…zzzzz…Good night! There is no substitute for the peace and rest of God. He promises, “Come unto me and I will give you rest.” No God – No Peace… Know God – Know Peace
