This is the age of need for more speed. It seems everyone wants faster Internets, vehicles, speed limits, and even fast sermons. I noticed that each time another faster I-Something is made that some people must have one. I compiled some various speeds for curious minds who want to know. Naturally, these figures may vary with new data or different sources. The speed of light is 186,000 miles per second, or about 671 million miles per hour. The speed of sound is 767 mph. The fastest wind speed is 318 mph. The fastest passenger plane is the Concorde at 1,450 mph. The fastest land speed is 763 mph. The fastest passenger train is France’s TGV at 320.2 mph. The fastest animal is the Peregrine falcon at 200 mph. The fastest land animal is the cheetah at 62.1 mph. The fastest two-legged animal is the ostrich at 43.5 mph. At this time, the fastest human in the world is Usain Bolt at 27.79 mph. The fastest snail was 0.03 mph. The Bible does not mention much about speed as things were a little slower in those days. In Acts 17:15 it reads, “And they that conducted Paul brought him unto Athens: and receiving a commandment unto Silas and Timotheus for to come to him with all speed, they departed.” But one day in the future the Lord will break all human speed records when He returns for His church. “Behold, I shew you a mystery; We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed, In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed” (I Cor. 15:51-52). We shall “caught up” and “changed” in the “twinkling” of an eye. One preacher said, “The Lord will come in an hour that ye blink not.” “For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout…and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord. Wherefore comfort one another with these words” (I Thess. 4:16-18). All those “In Christ” will orbit at the speed of thought to be caught up together to meet the Lord in the clouds. He is coming in an hour that ye think not, whether you are ready or not. Will you be “caught up”with Him or “left behind?” Watch and look as He could come today! Tomorrow could be too late! Are you ready?
