’Behold the days come,’ saith the LORD, ‘that I will raise unto David a righteous Branch, and a King shall reign and prosper, and shall execute judgment and justice in the earth.  In His days Judah shall be saved, and Israel shall dwell safely: and this is His name whereby He shall be called, THE LORD OUR RIGHTEOUSNESS” (Jeremiah 23:5-6).

The capital letters that spell this title were not mine, but are this way in the Bible.  I am thinking that doing this shows that we ought to respect and honor this Person.  The “LORD OUR RIGHTEOUSNESS” is an incredible blessing to me.  The reason this title touches my heart so much is that I know who I am.  I know my sinful nature very well.  I know that if I were to stand before our holy God in my own accomplishments, and my own righteousness that I would be in big trouble.

You might be thinking that you really aren’t that bad … think again.  The prophet Isaiah, under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit wrote: “But we are all as an unclean thing, and all our righteousnesses are as filthy rags; and we all do fade as a leaf; and our iniquities, like the wind, have taken us away” (Isaiah 64:6).  There you have it clearly placed on the pages of your Bible.  In our own strength and abilities, no matter how strong they are, are still lacking so much that God views them as “filthy rags.

Again, here we all were in the same boat, sinking in our sins without hope.  I am reminded of that verse in the old hymn, Love Lifted Me.  “I was sinking deep in sin far from the peaceful shore, very deeply stained within, sinking to rise no more.  But the Master of the sea heard my despairing cry.  From the water lifted me, now safe am I!”  That Master of the sea is none other than the “LORD OUR RIGHTEOUSNESS.”

Jesus came to this earth and did for each of us what we could not do for ourselves!  Have you noticed that none of the titles God gave to Jesus would fit anyone on this earth except Him?  Oh, there are many who promote themselves on this earth today, but the reality is there is only one “LORD OUR RIGHTEOUSNESS.”  There are many who teach things contrary to the Word of God and want us to believe that they are much smarter than we are, and that we should trust their words above the Word of God.  I am sorry, but they are not the “LORD OUR RIGHTEOUSNESS.”  I choose to follow Him!  I choose to depend upon His promises in His Word to direct my path today!  I will not depend upon my own understanding, but fully lean on the instruction He has given me in the Bible today.  Praise God that we have a “LORD OUR RIGHTEOUSNESS” we can depend upon today!
