Teach Others Also
“And the things that thou hast heard(learned) of me among many witnesses, the same commit thou to faithful men, who shall be able to teach others also.” – 2 Timothy 2:2
The Great commission involves teaching and training (Matthew 28:19-20). Teaching and training is the reason Silent Word Ministries exists. SWM was founded by missionaries Ted and Carlene Camp in 1966 to fulfill the Great Commission through evangelism and ministry to the Deaf world. The goal of the ministry is to reach the world of the Deaf for Christ; to help establish Deaf ministries in strong, fundamental churches; to win people to Christ worldwide; to help build established ministries; and to strengthen Deaf people into Christian maturity with a literature program.
Silent Word Mission Board was established to help missionaries with a like calling and burden for the deaf world to “come and help us.” It serves as a clearinghouse and office for missionaries and provides accountability to their local churches and their supporters. Silent Word Mission Board is unique in that its sole purpose is to reach the deaf world for Christ with the Gospel. The goal of Silent Word Mission Board is to help each missionary reach his fullest potential for the Lord. It is a ministry of leaders training leaders to minister to Deaf people and deaf ministries worldwide.
Since the beginning, the two main goals of SWM have been to Reach them and Teach them. SWM has a unique calling to, and special focus on, Deaf people. “How shall they hear without a preacher?” (Romans 10:14)
It is a blessing when hearing men give their lives to reach and teach Deaf people. In SWM, Ted Camp was first called to the Deaf, and Carlene followed. Jim Bracelin was called to the Deaf, and Terry followed.
I was called to the Deaf, and Diane followed. Under the Silent Word Mission Board, hearing men Reed Condra, David Bennett, and Paul Strosnider were called to the Deaf world, and their wives followed. Praise the Lord for many women in the deaf ministry, but there is still a great need for MEN. There is a great need for Deaf men to give their lives to reach and teach their own people. Both hearing and Deaf Men are needed as missionaries and pastors to the Deaf world. SWM encourages Deaf young people who desire to serve the Lord to go to Bible college. Several Bible colleges for Deaf people are advertised in this newspaper.
Introducing SWM Teaching & Training Bible Institute (T&T)
Some Deaf men and women cannot relocate to Bible college. The SWM T&T Bible Institute is a unique correspondence program to help train Deaf leaders to serve God. T&T courses are taught in voice and sign language, so both Deaf and hearing people can enroll. Students receive DVDs and Student Handbooks for each course. The first set of courses teaches Bible Doctrines. Current doctrine courses available are (01)The Bible, (02)God, and (03)Angels. Other courses to be developed are the doctrines of Man, Sin, Christ, Holy Spirit, Salvation, The Church, and Last Things.
Several churches and deaf ministries are now using the T&T in their ministries. Foreign missionaries are also using this program. Church interpreters and teachers can improve their interpreting and teaching by learning these Bible doctrines as presented in sign language.
Certificates are awarded for successful completion of each course. The T&T Bible Institute is an ongoing program, so there is no graduation. Students may continue to take additional courses as they become available.
Does your church have a deaf ministry? Consider enrolling deaf and hearing students in the T&T Bible Institute. Let us help your church “Teach others also” (2 Timothy 2:2).
