It Makes Sense If You Don’t Think About It

A TV commercial shows a confused man finally saying, “Well, it makes sense if you don’t think about it.” It seems that some of life does not make sense, even when you think about it. Yogi Berra says, “When you come to a fork in the road take it.” Duh! Then there was the pastor who was visiting various Sunday School classes to see how they were spiritually learning. As he visited the class of sixth grade boys, they were talking about things in the Old Testament. He listened for a while and then asked, “Who knows who knocked down the walls of Jericho?” Two boys quickly answered, “Preacher, we don’t know who, but we sure didn’t do it!” Surprised by their lack of Bible knowledge, he turned to the teacher and asked, “What do you think of that answer?” The teacher replied, “Well, pastor, I’ve known them since they were little, and they’ve always been honest. If they said they didn’t do it, I believe them.”

Another pastor, who questioned the spiritual knowledge of his deacon, said, “I will give you twenty dollars if you can cite the Lord’s Prayer.” The deacon said, “Now I lay me down to sleep and give the Lord my soul to keep. If I should die before I wake, I give the Lord my soul to take.” The pastor responded, “Here is the twenty dollars I didn’t think you knew it.”

Then another pastor said to another deacon, “You are always negative. Just once can you be positive about something.” The deacon slowly said, “I am positive it won’t work.”

At certain time things just may not make sense. You may not understand why things happen. You may question God. Bad things happen to good people and good things do happen to bad people. In our way of thinking it just does not make sense. I have learned that even if I knew why it does not change the situation. Life can be tough. We may not understand somethings in this lifetime, but we can trust God even when it does not make sense. God can still make all things work together for good (Romans 8:28). “For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the Lord” (Isaiah 55:8). Trust God because He is too wise to do wrong. Trust God because He makes no mistakes. We need to be as Job and trust God in all circumstances and situations, “Though he slay me, yet will I trust in him” (Job 13:15).

It makes sense, if you think about it! ….These are Words of Wisdom.
