Week 24 – Do You Have A Desert Handy?

Do You Have a Desert Handy?

“And he said unto them, Come ye yourselves apart into a desert place, and rest a while … and they had no leisure so much as to eat.  And they departed into a desert place by ship privately.” — Mark 6:31-32

A desert is an isolated place where you can rest awhile. Christians differ in many ways. You need to learn what it is that refreshes so you can return to the ministry with new life and vigor. Learn what drains you and what refreshes you in life. When you feel drained then take time to do things that refresh you. “Not that I speak in respect of want: for I have learned, in whatsoever state I am, therewith to be content. I know both how to be abased, and I know how to abound: every where and in all things I am instructed both to be full and to be hungry, both to abound and to suffer need. I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me” (Philippians 4:11-13). Notice the word “both.” Paul learned what drained him and what refreshed him. He did not continually linger where he was drained and he also knew when he needed to be refreshed. He stated both abased (draining) and abound (refreshing). Both abound (refresh) and suffer need (drain). Both to be full (refreshed) and to be hungry (drained). Then he stated, “I can do all (both draining or refreshing things) through Christ which strengtheneth (enables) me.” It is important for you to learn what drains you and what refreshes you. When you are weary in well doing you need to take a break to be refreshed. You cannot give your best when you are weary. Some need compliments and encouragement, but all at times need a desert place to rest.

You need a desert place to rest and be restored. God can speak to you better in silence than in a storm. Learn that It is important that you never make any life-changing decisions when you are weary in well doing. It is easy to over react to trivial things when you are tired. If you do not come apart then you may come apart. When things are hectic call a “time out” and walk away for a few minutes. Even the Lord took a break from His busy schedule. Learn what refreshes you and what drains you. There are times to refresh yourself.
