Week 18 – Choose To Be A Servant

Choose To Be A Servant

“God has placed every member in the body as it pleases him.” — I Corinthians 12:18

Notice that it did not say, “As it pleases you” but “As it pleases him.” A servant has no right to pick his place or position of service. A servant is to obey and please his master. A servant is to be used to serve his master. You only have the right to choose to be a servant. Not everyone is called to be a preacher or a missionary but everyone can choose to be a servant of the Lord Jesus Christ.

After you are saved you can present, yield, submit and surrender to be a servant to please your Lord and Master. As a servant you do not have the right to direct, dictate or demand from your Master. He has the right to do as He pleases, how He pleases, and when He pleases. The early Christians were totally committed to serving Him. Even Jesus Christ laid aside His royalty to become a servant.

Paul was called to be an apostle but he chose to be a servant. He put his position as a servant above his position as an apostle.

“Paul, a servant of Jesus Christ, called to be an apostle, separated unto the gospel of God.” – Romans 1:1

Simon Peter was also an apostle who chose to be called a servant.  “Simon Peter, a servant and an apostle of Jesus Christ.” – II Peter 1:1

When the Lord called the disciples to follow Him it was not for just a few weeks or months but it was a life-time commitment. When the Lord asks you to follow Him, He will not plead, persuade, or pull you to serve or follow Him. In this “me” generation the world needs to see more servants of the Lord Jesus Christ. Servants simply must daily choose to become a servant. Are you willing to become a servant of the Lord Jesus Christ?
