2009-06 June Barr Prayer Letter

June 2009

Dear Friends,

Summertime has arrived! Now that schools are out, the temperature is hot, and people are looking forward to vacations, we can be thankful the Lord never goes on vacation!  God never slumbers or sleeps (Psalm 121:4).  He is always active in our lives.  He gives us what we do not deserve.  That’s grace!  We are saved by grace and serve by grace.

Productive Summer Planned – The work of Silent Word Ministries is constantly active.  Summer is always a busy and fruitful time. This summer we will conduct Sign Language training through our ASL Institutes in Pennsylvania and Georgia. At the same time we conduct a Deaf Bible Conference with preaching specifically for Deaf people. Our missionaries are busy in meetings and conducting field evangelism. The need for deaf ministry literature continues even when we are out in meetings. As we function as a team, we share the load. It is our desire to produce fruit all summer. By God’s grace we will. We are grateful for friends like you that help us reach into the world of the Deaf not only during the summer, but throughout the year.

Missions and Salvation Decisions – This year we have seen 173 salvation decisions through our 24/7 ministry consisting of missionaries, meetings, field evangelism, and courses.  Through the years, SWM has produced over 2,330,000 Gospel tracts. Already this year our missionaries have conducted special meetings in Jamaica, Mexico, and the Philippines. As you may know, David Bennett of SWMI is organizing an evangelistic mission team to minister at the Deaflympics in Taiwan in September. Currently there are 22 team members going from across the USA and from several foreign countries. Thank you for your prayers and support which make these meetings possible. By God’s grace these efforts will produce eternal fruit.

Projects – We continue to work on several projects.  We are nearing completion on the first course for the new Teaching and Training Institute (T.N.T.). Once the first course has been completed, others should be able to follow much more quickly. Our SWM website, SilentWordMinistries.org, continues to slowly improve. Recently nearly one hundred SWM favorite quotations have been added to spiritually encourage and challenge those who view the site.

Undeserved Blessings – Often when I think of all God is doing through SWM, I am amazed and humbled that He has chosen to use us, all of us, in this way. I realize I do not deserve to be here, but I am grateful for the opportunity to serve.  Thank you for your faithful support.  As the songwriter said, “Tis grace hath brought me safe thus far, and grace will lead me home.”

For Deaf Souls,

Jon Barr, President
Silent Word Ministries
