The Way To Heaven

There are many important decisions in life -- college, marriage, job, and others. But the most important decision you will make is where you will spend eternity. When Jesus Christ was on the earth, He taught that there is only one way to heaven -- through Him. We hope you will see the importance of His teachings and decide to follow Him. The way to heaven is simple. You must follow Jesus' way. There are four things you must know if you want to go to heaven. The first two are the bad news. The second two are the good news.

First, you must understand that you are a sinner. That is not good news, but it is true. The Bible says all people have sinned (Romans 3:23, Romans 3:10). Sin means breaking God's laws. Every person has broken God's laws. It is impossible to keep all of God's laws. His law shows us that we need help. No person is good enough to go to heaven. If you want to go to heaven, you will need God's help.

Second, you must understand that your sin will be punished. Again, that is not good news. God says that "the wages of sin is death", (Romans 6:23a). Wages are what you earn. When you work, you earn wages, your pay. You get paid because you deserve it. In the same way, because of your sin, you deserve death. Sin cannot go to heaven. Heaven is perfect. Your sin will be punished in "hell." The "first death" is when your body dies. The "second death" is when you are put into the lake of fire (hell) forever. That is a terrible place. There are no parties in hell. There is only separation from all that is good -- forever. That is a terrible picture.

Third, you must understand that Jesus died for your sin. Jesus is God's Son. He said he was equal with God. Jesus never sinned. He was perfect. He did not need to be punished for his own sin. That is why he could pay for your sins. Jesus died on the cross to forgive your sins. He took upon himself the sins of the world. Jesus died for you. The Bible says that Jesus died for you, even though you are a sinner (Romans 5:8). That shows His great love for you.

Fourth, you must accept Jesus as the substitute for your sin. Someone must be punished for your sin. If you want to be punished, you will go to hell. If you let Jesus be punished for you, you can go to heaven. The Bible says "Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and" you will "be saved!" You must decide who you want to follow. The simple question is, "Do you want your sin, or do you want Jesus?" If you want to follow Jesus, rather than your sin, you can be saved.

Friend, when you realize that Jesus is the only one who can save you, and trust him to save you, you will have peace like you've never had before (Romans 5:1). You will have salvation (Romans 10:13). You will have a home in heaven with God (John 14:1-3). I trusted Christ as my Savior in 1975. I have never been sorry for that decision! Nor will you.

This sounds very simple. It is simple. Jesus died as the substitute for you. If you receive Him, he will save you. Would you pray right now and accept Jesus Christ as your savior? Say this prayer to God with a humble heart:

"Dear God, I know I am a sinner. I understand that you punish sin in hell. I know that Jesus died for me. I do not want my sin, I want Jesus. I now accept Jesus as my Savior. Thank you for saving me. Help me to live for you. In Jesus' Name, Amen. "
