James 1:22-25 “But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only....”
It is interesting to watch people look at themselves in a mirror. Some men will fix their hair again and again until it is perfect. Some ladies will adjust their makeup very carefully, even though many people would never have noticed it out of place. Other people will look in a mirror and not notice that something is very wrong. They accept their dirty face or unbrushed teeth. They turn and walk away without fixing the problem.
These verses in James use a mirror as an example of the Word of God. When you read the Bible or hear a Bible sermon, you have two choices. 1. You can neglect what you read or hear, remain the same, and decide not to change, or 2. You can make a decision to change your ways, follow Bible principles, and obey God. Ignoring the needed correction in life is very unwise. God's Word gives wise instruction and principles upon which you can build a strong and godly life.
When you don't like what you see in a mirror, don't break the mirror. Adjust yourself as needed. The only way to true blessing is not to disregard or rebel, but to obey the Word of God, change your life, and follow Bible principles. Little changes over a long time can have big results.
Decide today to be a doer and not just a hearer of the Word of God. #002
"As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that ye may grow thereby" (1 Peter 2:2). I love babies! Well, most of the time. There is nothing like holding a newborn in your arms -- especially when it's your baby. Our youngest child is now away from home and making many decisions himself. Children are supposed to grow. It is a joy to see them mature. Notice these truths.
Babies fully depend upon their parents - Christians should fully depend upon the Lord and the Word of God.
Babies must have constant care - Christians need constant interaction with our Heavenly Father.
It is right for babies to grow and mature - Christians should always grow and learn spiritually to become mature Christians.
Once babies are grown into adults, they must continue to care for their bodies, eat right, and get medical check-ups - Even mature Christians must continue to develop spiritually, fellowship with God, and keep their heart right with God.
Some young people think they are more mature than they really are, and try to do things for which they are not ready - Some Christians think they have learned enough and do not need to go to Church and read the Bible.
Even though young children can be a challenge, parents can be very happy taking care of and teaching their children - God loves caring for and teaching His children (Christians).
It is natural for children, after they are grown, to get married, have children, and teach and train their children - Christians should reproduce themselves by sharing the Gospel and teaching new Christians.
The Word of God provides the nourishment for Christians to grow into the mature Christian that God wants them to become. Are you still growing? It is still time to Learn and Live!
