Weekly Devotion - #47
Read Genesis 3
IT'S NOT MY FAULT
It seems that we live in an age where no one is
to blame. It always seems to be the other person's fault. No one wants to accept
responsibility or blame. It begins at the White House and goes all the way to
the pulpit. A bank sign read, "Happiness is finding someone else to blame."
Young people quickly state, "Don't blame me, it's not my fault."
Doctors blame the parents for the wrongs of the
child. Even in some religions the blame is placed upon the demons of lust or
sickness. It seems, "The Devil makes them do it." On some TV religious programs
when a person has the habit of cigarettes they will cast out the demon of
nicotine. The responsibility is placed upon the demon instead of the person. It
would be simple logic and common sense that the person put nicotine into his
body not a demon.
At some time everyone needs to accept
responsibility for their actions. It seems that no one is at fault anymore
because the blame and responsibility is placed upon parents, lifestyle,
environment, genes and habits. One man says he was asleep when he shot and
killed his sleeping wife. Another man contends he shot two unarmed men to death
because of "urban survival syndrome." Another man blames his genes for making
him kill. Then another man says he is not guilty of rape because it was one of
his 30 personalities who did it. A serial killer blamed a dog that talked to
him. One man beat up his wife while he was dreaming. These are now typical
excuses used in the court rooms. USA Today - The defendants try to find
something -- anything -- to blame. Prosecutors say, "If everyone is a victim,
there can be no criminals." Everyone claims victimization these days. It seems
no one is at fault or to blame.
It all started when Adam blamed the woman, the
woman blamed the serpent, and the serpent did not have a leg to stand upon. It
would be a much better world if people would learn to say, "I am sorry, it was
my fault." As long as a person blames others he cannot be helped. When he
accepts the responsibility for his actions then there is hope and help.
