Number Our Days
"So teach us to number our days, that we
may apply our hearts unto wisdom." ---Psalm 90:12.
The day of our birth into the world begins our
days. One day our last and final day will end. It is a short life from the
cradle to the coffin. God has given us all the same amount of time, twenty-four
hours daily. The days turn into weeks and weeks into months then it seems that
the years quickly fade away. It seems that funeral homes are always busy and
friends and family are passed away. Wonder whose name will be in the obituary
column of the next paper? Could it be your name?
It is wise to stop and number our days. How many
days have you lived? What have you done with those days? Did you do something
worthwhile today? Are you living for things instead of people? I have often
taught, "Don't love things but love people." How many more days will you live?
If you are going to invest in your family you need to start today. You can't
change the past but you can do something about the future. Live right today so
you will not regret the future. We need to number our days.
The average person lives 70 years or
25,550 days. Some people do not live the average lifetime and some will live
longer. But if you live the average life time, you will live 25,550 days. The
Bible teaches it is wise to number your days. How many days have you lived? How
many days do you have left? Now, it is possible that you will not live tomorrow
but even if you live an average life it is good to number your days. Notice that
it did not say number your years or months. Why? Because a person should live
his life one day at a time. Yesterday is gone and there is no promise of
tomorrow.
It might be interesting to number your days.
Take your age and multiply it times 365 days. How many days have you lived?
How many days will you live if you live an average life? Number your days and
begin to live one day at a time. Plan to make the days ahead the best that you
have ever known. [TGC]
