Look Out - You Are Going the Wrong Way!

Sometimes, people, especially men, will drive the wrong way and not look at the road map. Not only is he going the wrong way, but he goes faster to try to prove he is right. It seems that some people are not interested in learning what is right. They just don't want to be wrong. It is like the person driving the wrong way down a one-way street thinking everyone else is wrong. It is possible to think you are right and later be proven wrong.

Many years ago, in 1929, a famous story that has remained all these years, because in just a few moments, a young man did something wrong. Roy Riegels was a football player for the University of California. He became a great center. In three years he never had a bad snap. He was strong and had a good sense of timing but few remember these good things. He is remembered for just a few minutes in one play. The University of California was playing Georgia Tech in the Rose Bowl of 1929. It was a scoreless game when Georgia Tech Thompson took a hand off for a fifteen yard gain. He was hit hard and the ball was knocked loose. Roy Riegels who never got to run with the ball before, He picked it up as it bounced into his arms. He quickly dodged two players and saw open space, with every muscle straining at expected glory, he raced toward the goal line 65 yards away. The wrong goal line. He was running the wrong way. He heard his team mates yelling and thought they were cheering him on. Then his team mate was running after him, caught him at the one yard line trying to turn him around, only to be tackled underneath a swarm of excited Georgia Tech players. On the next play the quarterback was tackled behind the goal line for a two point safety. California lost by one point.

Roy Reigels became known as "wrong way Riegels" He is now a legend among goats and bloopers. He thought he was right but he was wrong. The Bible says, "There is a way which seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death" (Proverbs 14:12). A wrong way is wrong and it will never become the right way no matter how long you travel or how far. A wrong way will never be right. Make sure you are traveling the right and only way to Heaven, Jesus Christ (John 14:6). [TGC]
