Weekly Devotion - #42

Read: John 6:28-37

Read the fine print

Great news! My wife will soon win five million dollars! I am keeping this a secret from her because I want it to be a surprise. She has already passed two stages successfully and only needs to finish one more. I only need to mail in a subscription or just invest thirty-two cents in a stamp to become rich. This is exciting! Not only is it exciting but it is about the hundredth time we have almost won this contest.

One day after losing many times I looked on the back and read the fine print. Reader's Digest Sweepstakes rules: Final closing dates (usually over a year and many other sweepstakes added). The odds of winning a prize depend on the number of entries received. Approximate numerical odds are First Prize 1 in 600,000,000, Second Prize 1 in 105,000,000, Third Prize 1 in 90,000,000, Fourth Prize 1 in 26,250,000. I think the population of USA is only about 300,000,000 so your odds of winning the grand prize are one in twice the population of America.

I am happy that the Bible does not have any fine print clauses. When the Word of God states a claim or promise you can depend on it to be just what it says, without any fine print. For example:

God offers you eternal life as a free gift, "But the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 6:23). God offers salvation, "For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved" (Romans 10:13). All you need to do is receive what God offers, "But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name" (John 1:12). Even to the weary Christians He says, "Come unto me all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest" (Matthew 11:28).

These are promises of God without any fine print. [TGC]

THOT: All people who want to be saved can be saved.

TODAY: Claim one of God's promises. If you have never been saved, trust Jesus today.
