Weekly Devotion - #39
Read: Psalm 91:1-16
Touched by an Angel?
"...For he shall give his angels charge
over thee, to keep thee in all thy ways" (Psalm 91:11). Does God use
angels to protect and prevent things from happening to His people?
Some children require many angels.
In our travels we were visiting churches on the
West Coast. We were excited about visiting with Pastor David Jeremiah in San
Diego since we listened to his radio broadcast, "Turning Point." I want to share
with you a strange and unusual story that he told.
On Mother's Day a man decided to take his two
children to visit their mother where she worked. He dropped off some Mother's
Day presents, made his visit and then returned to the car with the two children.
The car was parked in an indoor garage where it was dark. He gently set the
infant seat and three-month-old son on the sun roof of the car and turned his
attention to seating his other child, a girl, who was close to two-years old.
Without thinking further, he slid into the driver's seat and drove off,
forgetting that his baby son was still on the roof of the car.
Moving slowly from the garage into the street he
drove through a busy city toward the Interstate. Despite heavy traffic, nobody
beeped or waved to warn him about the baby on top of the car. Pulling onto the
expressway he accelerated to 50 mph and then he heard it, a scraping on the roof
of the car as the infant car seat with his son started to slide. He said, "I
looked where the boy should have been, and then in my rear view mirror I saw him
sliding down the highway in his infant seat. That's where he landed. In the
middle of the road, in the path of oncoming traffic..."
The car seat flew off the roof, hit the road and
was sliding down the highway almost as fast as the cars coming toward it. A man
following the car witnessed the event. He saw something in the air and thought
someone had thrown garbage out a window. Then he saw it and thought it was a
doll in a seat. The doll opened its mouth and he realized it was a little baby.
It landed on the road and bounced but it never tipped over. The man slammed on
his brakes and turned his car around in the road so that no other cars could go
by. He jumped from his car, ran and picked up the uninjured baby. He took him to
the scared and thankful father. Yes, God protects with the touch of an angel.
