Road Closed

"Be not thou envious against evil men, neither desire to be with them." --Proverbs 24:1.

We were driving home to see our families. For miles and miles the interstate road we traveled was detoured onto another road. The road we were supposed to be on looked fine. In fact, it looked better than the detour road we were on. We wondered why it was closed. It looked like much better traveling.

After a while, we saw the reason. The road came to a drop-off at a river. The bridge had not yet been built. Naturally when we saw that, we understood the reason for the detour.

Maybe in our Christian life, we see other people who are living a better life than we are. We wonder why God is allowing them to live better when they are not saved and are living wrong lives. Sometimes we see what happens to them and we are glad we obeyed God. Often, though, we never understand why they seem to live better.

We should not measure our lives by others. God cares for us in ways that we may never know. His guardian angels watch over us and protect us from harm. "For he shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee in all thy ways" (Psalm 91:11). Maybe we have missed being in the hospital because our guardian angel protected us from an accident. Or maybe we have more money to spend for food because we don't waste it buying things that would be harmful to our bodies. God loves us and gives His best to us as we obey Him.

When God seemingly closes the "road" we wish to travel and our hopes and plans do not come to pass, accept His will. He knows the future and what is best for us. [BA]

THOT: Travel the road of obedience. It leads to joy.

TODAY: Thank God for the highway to Heaven.
