God Made Every Day
"This is the day which the Lord hath made; we
will rejoice and be glad in it"--Psalm 118:24.
This has been one of my favorite verses in the
Bible since I was a teenager. But, I always used this verse when good things
happened to me. The day I was to be married, I went around the house quoting
this verse. I remember when my first baby was born, I quoted this verse.
But, it dawned on me one day that God makes every
single day--the good days and the bad. He makes the rainy, cold days and the
bright, sunshiny days. God makes every single day!
All of us have sorrow and heartache come into our
lives. But God knows the things that will happen in our lives before we are
born. He is on the throne no matter what happens in our lives.
To me it was a very sad day when my daughter,
Betty, lost her hearing. It did not enter my mind that "this could be the day
the Lord hath made."
One day, however, I read again verse 24 in Psalm
118. I realized that God makes every single day. And, we should say, "This is
the Lord's doing; it is marvelous in our eyes" (Psalm
118:23).
No matter what comes our way, good or bad, we
need to trust the Lord about it. We need to say, "This is the Lord's doing."
I was in a church speaking to a group of women.
When I finished, a woman came to shake my hand and to disagree with me. The
woman said, as she shook her finger in my face, "Cathy Rice, I think it's wicked
that you are so happy."
This was quite a shock to me. Why in the world
would she think it was wicked for me to be happy. So I asked her why she made
this statement. "Because," she said, "You have no right to be happy when your
poor dead husband is not here with you." She then went on to tell me that her
husband had been dead for a number of years and she had been miserable every day
since.
What a wicked sinful thing. I told the lady that
the Lord made the day our husbands were born and He made the day our husbands
died. I also reminded her of I Corinthians 2:9, "...Eye hath not seen, nor
ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath
prepared for them that love Him." [CR]
Thot: Every single day we should know, "This
is the Lord's doing," and we should "rejoice and be glad in it."
Today: Remember to rejoice this
day.
