What is a Christian?
"...And the disciples were called Christians first in Antioch"--Acts 11:26
Webster's dictionary states that a Christian is a follower or disciple of Jesus Christ. The first time the name Christian is used in the Bible is in Acts 11:26. How many times is the name Christian found in the Bible? If you answered three, you are right. (Acts 11:26; Acts 26:28; I Peter 4:16.)
The Bible states that a Christian is: a child of God (Galatians 3:26); a friend of God (John 15:15); a soldier of Christ (II Timothy 2:3); a servant of Jesus Christ (Romans 6:16); a workman (II Timothy 2:15). There are many more names given in the Bible for Christian. Can you name some? The name Christian should be used with honor. Christians should stand tall and look the world in the eye and proudly state, "I am a Christian."
The early Christians died for the name of Christ. A great price was paid so that we can simply say, "I am a Christian." Early Christians were tortured, mocked, beaten, put in prison and bonds, some were stoned, cut in pieces and some had to hide in animal skins and live alone, leaving family and friends for the cause of Christ. (Hebrews 11:35 - 39.)
Today, do not be ashamed to be a Christian. Be faithful to the name of Christ. Bring honor and glory to a Saviour who died for you. When you visit places of business, do not be afraid to let them know that you are a Christian. When you buy groceries or eat in a restaurant, be a witness for Christ. When you write to your friends and family, let them know you are a Christian. The world needs to see Christ in you. What is a Christian? When people look at your life can they say, "There is a Christian!" [TGC]
THOT: Go ye into all the world and be a witness...daily as you go into your world, be a witness for Christ.
TODAY: Let your light shine in this dark world.
