No Fear in the Valley
"Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil for thou art with me..."--Psalm 23:4.
Since I was a young girl, I prayed for my father to be saved. Often I witnessed to him about Jesus Christ. But my father was a real hard person with a worldly lifestyle. He was a good man and claimed "religion" but he was not saved. In 1980 my father became ill with cancer. While in the hospital a friend led him to the Lord.
It was wonderful to see the change in my father's life. He became very close to God. He suffered with cancer for seven years but during those seven years he served God with his life. He witnessed about Jesus to relatives and friends. He drove a van to bring old people to church. One of his close friends trusted Christ as Saviour. My father faithfully read his Bible and prayed. He was truly a changed man through Jesus Christ.
In the fall of 1986, my father became more and more ill. He knew it would soon be time to die. He was not afraid. His special verse was, "Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil..." My dad was not afraid to die. He had Jesus in his life.
In the evening, on November 4, 1986, I was with my dad. We hugged and kissed and said good-bye. A short time later he went home to be with the Lord.
I prayed a long time for my dad to be saved. I am so thankful that he accepted the Lord and was saved. I am very thankful that the Lord gave him almost seven years to serve Him.
When it is your time to die, will you be afraid? If you are saved, you can say, "I will fear no evil..." Make sure you have Jesus for your trip through the valley. [SS]
